PMKS Still Rampant in Central Jakarta

Although they are often controlled, yet the existence of people with social welfare issues (PMKS) keeps rampant in the capital. In Central Jakarta for instance, almost roads are crowded by PMKS. Whereas, the local government has applied a firm sanction but they remain ignore it.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, some roads that are prone to PMKS are located on Jalan Gajah Mada, Jalan Hayam Wuruk, Jalan Benhil Raya, Jalan Wachid Hasyim, Jalan Prof Dr Satrio, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda, Jalan Setia Budi Raya and Jalan MH Thamrin. 

"No wonder, most of the PMKS scavenge ask for money to bus passengers and even some pretend as orphans," expressed Ateng, one of motorcycle-taxi drivers in Senen area, Saturday (1/31).

One Month, 60 PMKS Netted in East Jakarta

Responding on this matter, Head of Central Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Susana Budi Susilowati disclosed to monitor PMKS, her sub-department has sent personnel along protocol roads in Central Jakarta every day.

"Our personnel immediately secure the beggars and bums and then transported using operational cars. Then for 3 in 1 jockeys, we just do expulsion," she told.

Susilowati explains 3 in 1 jockey is commonly people who live in the buffer zone and have a family. Her side admitted, P3S personnel plus operational cars have been sent to PMKS-prone areas.

"They (PMKS) usually fled when they see our personnel. But we do not secure mothers who bring baby to avoid human rights violation, because their family wait them at home," she stated.
